Dragon NaturallySpeaking Technologies Coming Soon to Intel Ultrabooks

Nuance announced in a press release yesterday that the company will be collaborating with Intel to bring its world-leading speech recognition technologies (the core of Dragon NaturallySpeaking) to Ultrabooks in 2012. Using this technology, users will be able to control their Ultrabooks using only their voice.

Peter Mahoney, Chief Marketing Officer at Nuance Communcations says:

This is truly an exciting partnership, where we’ll combine the power of Nuance voice and natural language technologies with Intel powered Ultrabooks, allowing people to interact with their Ultrabook with natural voice commands. Nuance and Intel share a vision for compelling interactions between man and machine, and the two companies will collaborate to optimize for Intel Core processors and Ultrabook designs, resulting in a better end user experience and interactions which will be faster than ever before.

Turn your iOS device into a remote wireless mic for Dragon

Nuance introduces a new cool features in Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11.5, available as a free upgrade for all Dragon v11 customers. If you registered your software after making a purchase, you will receive a notification when the free download is available.

The software now has an available iOS application for iPhones, iPads and iPod touches that turns the devices into a remote wireless mic (note: The app currently only works with the Windows version of the software). Additionally, the latest version makes social networking, such as Facebook and Twitter posts, simpler by including a social network tie-in.

Peter Mahoney, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Dragon at Nuance, says:

As mobile devices and social networks have become a more important part of our customers’ lives, they have asked us for more flexibility in how they can use Dragon. People who have never tried Dragon before will be genuinely impressed with all the ways it lets you interact with your digital world. Those who are already familiar with Dragon will see some exciting improvements that extend its use with social sharing, and add flexibility with microphones and recording devices.

The new Dragon Remote Microphone is different from Nuance’s previous app for iOS, Dragon Dictation, which lets users speak to send text messages, emails, and social media updates. The new app is only useful with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11.5 or higher. The Dragon NaturallySpeaking Premium version adds playback of recorded speech command sequences, multiple dictation sources, and more.

Easy & affordable software to manage your paperwork

Small businesses often have bills, legal documents, bank statements and more to organize. At home, you might want to organize receipts, recipes, photos, home assets — in other words, your stuff.

The above is part of the introduction to an article by Investor’s Business Daily, titled Where’s My Digital Stuff? Software has Answer, which introduces its readers to document management software, and why it is a good idea, not to mention easy.

The article further compares Nuance’s PaperPort software to a couple of competitor products, mentioning that it’s hard to beat the leader in the field, Nuance, especially when it comes to lower priced products.

If you already have a scanner and PaperPort wasn’t included with it, you’ll find that spending the money for a copy of PaperPort adds a lot of value to the hardware. Even if your scanner did come with a copy of PaperPort, it’s probably worth the $100 or so to upgrade to the newest version.

As a comparison, while Nuance PaperPort 12 sells for $99 and PaperPort Professional 12 for $199, the competitor products mentioned in the article are both priced around $400.

Nuance aquires print management and cost recovery company Equitrac

Nuance has entered an agreement under which the company will acquire Equitrac Corporation, a leading provider of intelligent print management and cost recovery software, currently adopted by more than 25,000 organizations worldwide. Robert Weideman, senior vice president and general manager of the Nuance Document Imaging Division says:

Equitrac expands our ability to provide our customers and MFP partners with solutions that deliver even higher levels of cost savings and office productivity. [The company] delivers proven value in healthcare, financial, legal and educational organizations, and provides secure print capabilities to desktop and mobile global office workers. This complements Nuance’s strengths in mobile and office productivity, and aligns well to Nuance’s key verticals, especially healthcare.

Nuance Dragon technologies reaches smartphones worldwide

Nuance announced today that its Nuance Mobile Developer Program has signed over 2,500 developers in its first three months. This includes dozens of voice-enabled apps for iOS and Android all across the world.

What this program does is provide developers with easy access to Dragon Mobile SDK, which features the famous Dragon NaturallySpeaking speech recognition capabilities. This way, developers can fully voice-enable basically any app and bring it to the marker quicker than otherwise possible.

Nuance in negotiations with Apple

According to several different sources, Nuance is said to be in negotiations with Apple. Most likely, the negotiations are about further cooperation between the two companies. Apple is already using Nuance’s Dragon NaturallySpeaking engine to power popular applications for Mac OS X and iOS.

It is believed that the new negotiations may have something to do with bringing Dragon NaturallySpeaking technologies to the iPhone. Currently, Nuance offers Dragon Dictation for iPhone, but it is possible that a new partnership between the companies would bring this voice recognition technology natively to iOS.

In order for Apple to create similar technology of its own, the company would not only have to spend a lot of time getting to where Nuance is today, but Nuance also holds key patents for its technology, and is very aggressive in protecting these patents. It is quite obvious why!
